[Note: The following is NOT authorized by Steve Young, any member of his staff, by any Party or by any member of any Grassroots organization. This is strictly my thinking based on experience in the trenches since 1966.]
While the continuing line of Republicans pulling papers has now reached 12 people and we have 1 Green, 1 Libertarian, 2 Decline-to-State Write-in's, there are just two Democrats: John Graham and Steve Young.
John Graham has run three times, and to quote from a letter sent to him by a man who considered running for the CA-48th after holding State office as a Democrat in a Red District for 7 terms in Kansas,
Because of this reality, there has been an effort to convince Mr. Graham
that in fact we do have a real opportunity to win this seat and it is
demonstrably better with only ONE Democrat on the ballot!
Presidents of local clubs, local activists, party lovyalists have all told me
that they not only do not support Mr. Graham but will actively oppose him if he
does insist in having his name on the ballot.
So why the call for some individual National Democrats to step up to the
plate? It is my individual belief that it will take the phone calls, at least, of a few nationally known Democrats to cause Mr. Graham to realize that his position endangers the Party and weakens our position. The DCCC and the DNC can't make these efforts because of their positions within the Party. But individual Democrats can pick up the phone, get on the airplane or do what necessary to give the Republicans the biggest blackeye they've suffered in...well....who know's how long?
So I call for those people who have those contacts, those friends, in Washington and Sacramento to use them. Call those people today. Today is Thursday. Mr. Graham has until Monday to be convinced to NOT return his papers to the OC Registrar's office and effectively withdraw from the race. It is my opinion that it will take the voices of people far outside the District to make that happen.
Steve Young, an aggressive candidate that already has the support of the locals and much of the Los Angeles based Grassroots, is gathering stream at a rapid rate. With just one Democrat on the ballot our chances are greatly increased. And Steve Young has already turned in his papers. He will be on the Ballot. period.
[Again, I must insist that everyone understand that this is The Big Dog, Stuart O'Neill, speaking for himself. No one has suggested or authorized this post. I hope this reaches the right ears. To reach Mr. Graham click here.]
We can win the CA-48th. Because it boils down to just one thing:
Change or more of the same!
